Libya
For around five centuries, the Zawiya of Abd al-Salam al-Asmar has made Zliten one of Libya's foremost centres of Maliki Islamic jurisprudence and Quranic education. This Mediterranean coastal city sits east of Tripoli, with the sea to the north and mountains within reach inland. The wider region holds UNESCO World Heritage sites.
