Zherong, known historically as Zhùyáng and also called Liucheng, is a mountain county in the northeast of Fujian province, bordering Zhejiang to the north and administered by Ningde. Long a trading hub between Fujian and Zhejiang — historically described as the "throat" connecting the two provinces — it holds designations as a national ecological demonstration zone and is known for its production of pseudostellaria root, a traditional medicinal herb. The county also carries a reputation for papercut folk art and longevity culture.
