Yambuku
Congo - Kinshasa
Yambuku, a compact village in northern DR Congo's Mongala Province, is known historically as the site of the first documented Ebola outbreak, in 1976, when the World Health Organization identified a local man as the index case. The village has a Catholic mission dedicated to Saint Walburge, a primary school, and a reference hospital — the same hospital that was at the centre of the 1976 epidemic.
