Known as the "Abbots Town" for the more than 500 years that the prince-abbots of St. Gallen made their residence here, Wil is a town in the canton of St. Gallen in eastern Switzerland with a walkable centre dense with historic churches and a solid food-and-drink scene. The town won the Wakker Prize in 1984 for the preservation and development of its architectural heritage, and sits within reach of vineyards, mountain viewpoints, and UNESCO World Heritage sites in the wider region.
