Voeren

Belgium

This small Flemish exclave in the Belgian province of Limburg sits along the Voer river, bordered on three sides by the Liège province and to the north by the Dutch region of Limburg. Geographically detached from the rest of Flanders, Voeren gained a distinct identity through decades of heated language disputes between Flemish and Walloon communities in the 1960s through 1980s. Since 2023 it has been designated a Landschapspark, recognised for its bocage landscape.
