Viljandi
Estonia
A walkable town in southern Estonia set on the shores of Lake Viljandi, with a centre full of cafés and scenic viewpoints across the surrounding hills. First mentioned in 1283, Viljandi joined the Hanseatic League in the early 14th century, making it one of five Estonian members of that trading network. The influential Estonian newspaper Sakala was founded here in 1878.
