Between the Serra do Alvão and Serra da Padrela mountains in northern Portugal's Vila Real district, Vila Pouca de Aguiar is a small town with a café-filled centre, a concentration of historic churches, and scenic mountain surrounds. The municipality is known for its agricultural landscape, granite extraction, and the mineral waters of Pedras Salgadas, while Roman-era gold mines at Tresminas and Jales point to human settlement stretching back to prehistoric times.
