Boat excursions to the sea cliffs of Vestmannabjørgini are the main draw of this small village on the west coast of Streymoy, the largest of the Faroe Islands. Formerly a ferry port, Vestmanna sits where mountain terrain meets the water, and its name — derived from Old Norse for "Westmen's harbour" — reflects an early Gaelic presence in the islands.
