Restored to its Edo-period appearance as the forty-second post town on the Nakasendō highway between Tokyo and Kyoto, Tsumago is a modest hamlet in Nagano Prefecture's Kiso Valley sitting along the Araragi River. The restoration is considered more faithful to the original than comparable post-town revivals nearby, and the village is frequently paired with the adjacent post town of Magome via a historic trail over the Magome Pass.
