This small town in the Douro River valley of northern Portugal, Torre de Moncorvo sits in almond and olive country with vineyards spreading across the surrounding hills. The town has medieval origins tied to its frontier role during the Reconquista, and retains old town walls and religious buildings alongside traces of a once-significant Jewish community that held autonomous jurisdiction in the medieval period. The wider region is ringed by UNESCO World Heritage sites.
