Tonaya
Tonaya · Mexico
Agave distilling has given Tonaya its regional and national reputation, with around a dozen producers operating in this little Jalisco town in the Sierra de Amula mountains. Some historians trace the settlement's founding to a Toltec tribe in the 6th century. The town's main religious festival runs from 6 to 15 August, devoted to the Virgen de la Asunción, and bullfighting events take place between Christmas Eve and New Year.
