The highest capital city in Mexico and North America, Toluca de Lerdo sits well above sea level in the State of Mexico, giving it a temperate climate year-round. The city centre is dense with historic churches, traditional portals, cafés, and restaurants, and the Cosmovitral botanical garden draws regular visitors. The annual Alfeñique Fair, held for the Day of the Dead festival, is among the most prominent cultural events, alongside the Toluca International Film Festival. Mexico City is a short distance to the east.
