Tervuren, a town on the edge of Brussels in Flemish Brabant, is best known as the site of the Royal Museum for Central Africa, housed in what was once the Belgian king's summer residence and set within an extensive park. King Leopold II connected it to Brussels via a grand processional avenue built for the 1897 Universal Exhibition, still served by a heritage tramline. The walkable centre has a good range of cafés and restaurants, and the Sonian Forest borders the town.
