First mentioned in chronicles in 1097, Terebovlia is one of the oldest towns in western Ukraine, a former medieval principality capital in Ternopil Oblast with a small central core of cafés and restaurants. The town holds several listed historic monuments, including Terebovlia Castle, the defensive Church of St. Nicholas, and a Carmelite church and monastery. Its history spans Polish Magdeburg rights granted in 1389, Habsburg administration, and a significant role in 20th-century conflicts, including a massacre of Jews during the Holocaust.
