Teknaf sits at the southernmost point of mainland Bangladesh, where the Naf River forms both the town's eastern boundary and the border with Myanmar. The port here handles cross-border trade with Myanmar, giving the town a frontier character. St. Martin's Island, Bangladesh's only coral island, is accessible from Teknaf, making the town a practical base for reaching it. Hills and water are close on multiple sides.
