Targovishte

A compact provincial city in north-eastern Bulgaria where the Vrana River runs through the centre and the Preslav foothills rise nearby, Targovishte has a walkable core with cafés and restaurants and sits in wine-growing country. Known historically as an old market settlement, it functions today mainly as a regional capital and a practical stopping point for travellers moving between Sofia and the Black Sea coast.
