Tampico

During Mexico's first oil boom in the early 20th century, Tampico was the leading oil-exporting port of the Americas and second-busiest in the world, and the wealth generated then shaped an architectural legacy that has drawn comparisons to Venice and New Orleans. This Gulf Coast port city in Tamaulipas sits on the Pánuco River, close to the Gulf of Mexico, and is also known for its food scene. Silver, copper, and lumber remain among its exports today.
