Southern Thai city on the Gulf of Thailand coast near the mouth of the Tapi River, Surat Thani is the main departure point for Ko Samui, Ko Tao, and Ko Pha Ngan, with a walkable centre that has a solid café and restaurant scene. The city itself is a regional commercial hub trading in rubber and coconuts, and the second-largest city in southern Thailand.
