A walkable suburban city on the Sturgeon River in Alberta, St. Albert sits immediately northwest of Edmonton and offers a centre with cafés and restaurants along the waterfront. Originally settled as a Métis community, it received town status in 1904 and was connected by the Canadian Northern Railway in 1906, making it one of the older established settlements in the Edmonton region.
