Compact village in the Levoča District of central-eastern Slovakia, Spišský Štvrtok is home to a historic church with Gothic carvings by Master Pavol of Levoča. First recorded in 1263, the village takes its name from the Slovak word for Thursday, a reference to its historical market-day. The wider Spiš region is ringed by UNESCO World Heritage sites, and the village sits within reach of the mountains.
