This small Atlantic resort town in the Landes department of southwestern France, Hossegor is built around surfing: its beach break, including the wave known as La Gravière, draws World Surf League competitions held jointly with neighbouring Capbreton and Seignosse. Four beaches front roughly three and a half kilometres of coastline alongside a lake, and the town has a café and restaurant scene that punches well above its size. A seaside resort since the 19th century, it sits a short drive north of Biarritz.
