This large city in northern Guangdong Province where the Zhenjiang and Wujiang rivers meet, Shaoguan has a walkable centre with a real café and restaurant scene set against mountain views. The city is home to the mummified remains of Huineng, the sixth patriarch of Zen Buddhism, and is known for its surrounding nature, hot springs, and a significant Yao ethnic minority community. With more than two thousand years of history, it has long served as a key land gateway between northern and southern China.
