This port city south of Lisbon with a dense café and restaurant scene, historic churches in the centre, and a waterfront position at the edge of the Arrábida coast. Setúbal was officially recognised as a city in 1860 and is the birthplace of the 18th-century poet Manuel Maria Barbosa du Bocage, born here in 1765. Scenic viewpoints in the surrounding hills and proximity to UNESCO-listed sites in the wider region add to its appeal as a base for the Península de Setúbal.
