Porcelain manufacture has defined Selb for well over a century, with the Rosenthal factory — founded here in 1879 by Philipp Rosenthal — making this Upper Franconian town one of Germany's best-known ceramics centres. Situated in the Fichtel Mountains on the Czech border, it lies along the Bavarian Porcelain Road and hosts the traditional Selber Wiesenfest each July. A compact centre with cafés and restaurants serves the town, and UNESCO World Heritage sites are accessible in the wider region.
