This compact village in the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia, south of Porto, sits close to water and carries an unusual density of cafés, restaurants, and churches for its size. Administratively, it has shifted between independent parish status and merger with neighbouring Pedroso, most recently restored as a standalone parish in 2025. The wider region holds UNESCO World Heritage sites within reach.
