Schreiber
Canada
This little township on the northernmost shore of Lake Superior in Ontario, Schreiber sits in mountain terrain along Highway 17 with direct water access and trails into the surrounding landscape. The Casques Isles Trail, conceived by Schreiber-born outdoorsman Tom McGrath, runs along the lake and connects to the broader Voyageur Hiking Trail. Nearby exposures of Gunflint chert hold rare single-celled Proterozoic fossils. The town takes its name from Sir Collingwood Schreiber, a 19th-century railway engineer and deputy minister of Railways and Canals.
