San Vicente Pacaya

Guatemala

At the foot of Pacaya volcano in Guatemala's Escuintla department, San Vicente Pacaya is a compact town that served as the filming location for Ixcanul (2015), an internationally award-winning Guatemalan film. The town's name combines a reference to its patron saint, San Vicente Mártir, honoured each year on 22 January, with a Nahuatl word for edible palm heart. The wider region is ringed by UNESCO World Heritage sites.
