On the Sea of Cortez coast in Sonora, Mexico, San Carlos is a tiny beach town designated a Pueblo Mágico in 2023, known for clear, warm water in its shallow bays and a strong diving and sailing scene. The peak of Cerro Tetakawi — a landmark with deep significance for the Yaqui people — rises above the town, and a scenic overlook nearby was ranked among the world's top ten ocean views by National Geographic in 2011. Many North American visitors stay through the winter months.
