Salento's historic centre, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of Colombia's Coffee Cultural Landscape in 2011, is one of the best-preserved examples of colonial architecture in the eje cafetero — a result of the town's relative isolation after the main Popayán–Bogotá route was diverted. The nearby Cocora Valley draws visitors for its walks and landscapes, and the town itself has a café and restaurant scene that punches well above its size.
