Sagunto
Valencia/València · Spain
The ruins of ancient Saguntum, the Iberian and Roman city whose siege in 219 BC triggered the Second Punic War, are the defining reason to visit this Mediterranean town in Valencia province, a short distance north of Valencia city. The old town climbs the hillside below a castle and Roman theatre, while the separate coastal settlement of Puerto de Sagunto sits on the Mediterranean. The municipality spans both mountain terrain and seafront, giving visitors two distinct settings within the same town.
