A river port city in Vietnam's Mekong Delta, Sa Đéc sits on the water in Đồng Tháp province and serves as an agricultural and trading hub for the surrounding region. One of the oldest urban settlements in the province, its Khmer name — Phsar Dek, meaning "Iron Market" — points to a history stretching back more than three centuries, roughly contemporaneous with the founding of Saigon.
