Resort town on Jamaica's northern coast, Runaway Bay is known for some of the island's best offshore diving and snorkelling, with reef sites including the Canyon, Ricky's Reef, and a dive site called Ganja Planes where wrecked aircraft rest on the seabed. The town sits close to Nine Mile, the village where Bob Marley was born, and an eighteen-hole golf course at Breezes Runaway Bay Resort has hosted championship events. The name itself traces to the town's history as an escape route for runaway slaves.
