This lakeside town in southern Burundi, Rumonge sits directly on Lake Tanganyika near the point where Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Tanzania converge. That border-zone position gives the town a cross-cultural character, with residents from all three countries present in daily life. A provincial capital and one of Burundi's larger towns, it lies in highland terrain a short distance south of Bujumbura.
