A town on the Oued Ziz river in Morocco's Drâa-Tafilalet region, Er-Rich grew from an ancient ksar on the riverbank and once served as a significant fortress. Situated between the Atlas Mountains, it sits at a crossroads of routes toward Meknes, the Tafilalet oasis, and Tinghir. The town historically supported both a church and a synagogue, the latter active until the late 1960s. The Tazmamart secret prison, notorious in Moroccan history, was located nearby.
