Ras al-Khaimah, the capital of its namesake emirate in the United Arab Emirates, sits on a creek-divided waterfront with the Hajar Mountains visible on the horizon. The city splits into two distinct halves — an older western quarter and the newer Nakheel district to the east — connected by the inlet known as Al Khor. A driveable distance from Dubai and Sharjah, it functions as a regional base with a working harbour and local government centre.
