A regional city in central Chile with a walkable centre dense with cafés and restaurants, Rancagua sits within easy reach of vineyards, mountain terrain, and smaller surrounding towns. The city was the site of a significant battle on 1–2 October 1814 during Chile's independence era, and later became a hub for copper mining under the Braden Copper Company, now part of Codelco. Santiago is a short distance to the north.
