Known as the "Pink City of Nepal," Rajbiraj was laid out in 1938 following the grid plan of Jaipur, making it the first planned township in Nepal. The district headquarters of Saptari in Madhesh Province, it has a walkable centre with cafés and restaurants, and the city takes its name from the ancient Rajdevi temple, rebuilt by the Sena kings in the early 14th century.
