Built as a purpose-built tourist marina near Sousse on the Tunisian Mediterranean coast, Port El Kantaoui opened in 1979 following a vision by Habib Bourguiba to develop tourism along the Sahel region. The harbour is considered one of Tunisia's most significant tourist ports, with a waterfront lined with cafés and restaurants that give it a lively scene for a resort of its size.
