A summer tourism town on the northern Swedish coast in Norrbotten County, Piteå draws roughly half of the region's summer visitors and has a compact centre with cafés and restaurants. The town is also known for its local dialect, pitemål, and the traditional dish pitepalt. Nearby, Markbygden — Europe's largest land-based wind farm — is under construction, and UNESCO World Heritage sites lie within the wider region.
