Pinsk
Belarus
Sometimes called the capital of Polesia, Pinsk is a Belarusian city at the confluence of the Pina and Pripyat rivers, in the historically marshy lowland region southwest of Minsk. First mentioned in 1097, it served at various points as a seat of Orthodox bishops, a centre of Jesuit education, and home to a substantial Jewish community. The restored city centre retains two-storey buildings from the 19th and early 20th centuries, and the city holds dozens of state-protected historical and cultural monuments.
