Patnos
Agri · Türkiye
This city on the Patnos plain in eastern Turkey, ringed by high mountains including the extinct volcano Süphan to the south and watered by a tributary of the Murat River. The plain has been settled since at least 1300 BC and was a centre of the Urartu civilisation, with historical ruins from that period still present in the district. Patnos sits at the junction of roads connecting four surrounding provinces, making it a practical base for the wider region.
