Palamuse

Estonia

Palamuse, a modest village in Estonia's Jõgeva County, is best known as the real-life setting for Oskar Luts's beloved 1912–1913 novel *Spring* (*Kevade*), in which it appears as the fictional "Paunvere" — and the 1969 film adaptation was shot here too. The village holds a parish school museum dedicated to Luts, a church, and a cultural complex including a parsonage, pharmacy building, and watermill. Luts's brother, the filmmaker Theodor Luts, was born here. The settlement was first recorded in a papal letter dated 1234.
