Orangeburg

Little South Carolina city on the north fork of the Edisto River, Orangeburg is home to two historically Black institutions of higher education — Claflin University, a liberal arts college, and South Carolina State University — giving it an academic presence unusual for a town its size. The compact centre has cafés, restaurants, and an above-average concentration of churches, and the city serves as the county seat a short drive southeast of Columbia.
