Ōgaki, a city in Gifu Prefecture in central Japan, was the final destination of the haiku poet Matsuo Bashō on the journey recounted in his celebrated travel diary Oku no Hosomichi, and the city marks that connection each November with a Bashō Festival. Set along the water and within sight of mountains, Ōgaki has held city status since 1918.
