This small Mississippi Gulf Coast city with a compact downtown lined by live oak trees and home to art galleries, restaurants, and bars, Ocean Springs has a long-standing reputation as an arts community. It was the hometown of Walter Inglis Anderson, a nationally renowned painter and muralist who drew on the surrounding coastal landscape and barrier islands. The annual Peter Anderson Festival is one of the Southeast's major arts and crafts events.
