Nyala
Sudan
Nyala is the capital of South Darfur state in western Sudan, a large city that serves as a major hub for gum arabic trade and sits at the crossroads of routes connecting eastern and western Sudan as well as north and south. The Jebel Marra plateau rises nearby, and a railway terminus here once linked the region eastward toward Khartoum and southward toward Wau. Most of Darfur's tribal groups, including the Baggara, are represented in the city's population.
