Nueva Palmira
Uruguay
Founded in 1831 on the eastern bank of the Río Uruguay near where it meets the Río de la Plata, Nueva Palmira is a tiny town in Uruguay's Colonia Department whose working port drives much of the country's grain exports — making it the second-busiest port in Uruguay after Montevideo. The waterfront setting and the confluence of two major rivers give the town its defining character.
