Cuba's southernmost municipality, Niquero sits on the Gulf of Guacanayabo in Granma Province, with the Caribbean Sea shaping daily life in a town long defined by fishing and sugar production. Cape Cruz, the westernmost point of the province, lies within the municipality. The local musical tradition of the Órgano Oriental and a liberation date of 6 December 1958 mark the town's cultural and historical identity, while UNESCO World Heritage sites lie within the wider region.
