An ancient hill town in Umbria that claims to sit at the geographical centre of Italy — a spot marked by a stone — Narni overhangs a narrow gorge of the River Nera and offers scenic views across the surrounding terrain. Known in Roman times as Narnia, it stood on the Via Flaminia, the road connecting Rome to the Adriatic, and its compact centre holds cafés and restaurants within easy walking distance of its historic streets.
