A desert oasis in eastern Jordan historically rich in fresh and mineral water, Muthallath al Azraq is home to the Azraq Wetland Reserve, a significant rest stop for migratory birds travelling from Europe, and the Shaumari Wildlife Reserve. The wider area holds several desert castles, including Qasr Azraq and Qasr Useikhim, and the region's population is a mix of Druze, Bedouin, and Chechen communities.
